About

At NLX Robotics we do what we always wanted to do: design and build our own robots. Nothing is more exciting than bringing your own creations to life, and seeing it move around in the real world. We are incredibly lucky that recent technological breakthroughs have made it possible for small technological startups such as ours to also compete in this space. Knowing that the field is moving incredibly fast, our approach is to use that to our advantage, to learn from others, and not be afraid to change our designs, components, or software, when something better comes along. To speed up development we will make heavy use of off the shelve low level components, but the overall design, training, and the magic of sensorimotor integration is going to be ours, allowing us to stand out with our unique robots.

Johan van Doornik is the founder and technical lead of NLX Robotics. He holds a Master’s in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, where his research focused on the control of human locomotion. He later completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University, studying the role of learning in motor control.

Johan has supported multiple companies with advanced engineering projects involving 3D modeling, machine learning, and AI. With a background bridging human biomechanics, robotics, signal processing, and intelligent control systems, he is now bringing all his experience together to build biologically inspired robots at NLX Robotics.
